Obituary.
EILEEN REED 1925-2009 by her daughter, Ros Davies
Our mother was born in Ravensthorpe, the youngest child of Randal and Millicent Hickman, an old Ravensthorpe family.
Apart from living briefly with her sister in Northampton during the war, she lived her entire life in the village.
She met her husband, John, when he was a soldier stationed at Guilsborough during the war, and they married in 1946.
At first they lived at 41 High Street. Later they moved to 10 Bettycroft Close before finally ending up at 43 High Street.
Mum was always very active in village life joining, among others, the WI, skittles, darts, bingo and Senior Citizens.
She was a caring person, always ready to help out, and looked after several family members in their old age.
She was a keen gardener, growing most of her own fruit and vegetables.
She was also an excellent sewer and cook. She worked for many years at Horace Batten’s, making riding boots.
She enjoyed travelling and loved her family and friends.
We will all miss her.
